I have an exhibition coming up in September! Yey!

Unlike last time, this will be a general overview of all the comics I’ve done in the past… almost a decade, so there will be a lot of stuff on display!

The Exhibition is in Galleria Salmi at the Laajasalo library, in Eastern Helsinki. My exhibition starts on the 2nd of September and lasts until the 29th. It will be open during the opening hours of the library, which are 8-20 Monday to Thursday 8-16 on Fridays and 10-16 on Saturdays!

I just managed to frame the last piece, so I’m feeling confident about this thing actually happening xD

I will also be attending Helsinki Comic festival’s Zine Fest on SUNDAY the 17th of September! Comic Festival is at Korjaamo in Töölö this year, and if everything goes according to my keikaku, there will be a second installment of The Pillars of Heaven available too! A few originals of it will be on display at the exhibition so you will get a sneak peek ;D

 

Feather & Scale added to my Ko-Fi shop!

The remnants of Sulka / Suomu, or Feather and scale (leftovers from the Booked 2022 Exhibitiom), have been added to my Ko-Fi shop! The comic is silent so no real worries about the language, either ^^ Next page is progressing nicely too!

Exhibition and Pakanalliset Syysmessut

Just a quick reminder to all of you Finnish people that the Tikkurila exhibition is open until Saturday the 9th!

Sulka & Suomu -sarjakuvan julkaisunäyttelystä tulikin pieni näyttelykiertue! Esillä myös aiemmin näkemättömiä originaalisivuja sarjakuvasta.

Sulka & Suomu on pieni haitarikirjasarjakuva, sen lisäksi se on koe siitä miten syklinen ja monisuuntainen kerronta voisi toimia paperisena sarjakuvana. Sulka & Suomu on unenomainen tarina kahden inhimillisiä ja epäinhimillisiä piirteitä omaavan olennon kohtaamisesta ja sen seuraamuksista.

 The Feather & Scale publication exhibition turned into a mini-tour! A few new, yet unseen originals will also be on display.

Feather & Scale is a small accordion book-comic. It is an experiment, a study of how cyclic and multilinear storytelling could function in paper format. It is also a dreamlike story of the meeting of two creatures; and the multiple consequences that ensue.

Postcards!

My first set of postcards fresh off the printers! They’re printed on 300g/m2 cardstock and have an exquisite matte finish~ You just need to touch them to understand the height of sublime the surface possesses~~~

Stockholm International Comic Festival!

Greetings from Stockholm, we had a great weekend! Thank you all who visited our table, and hopefully we'll see again next year, too.

I got it! Finally! I love Robin Hobb's books, mayhaps the best of all books.

Spring and Summer Annoucements

First of all, my seminar paper is done and submitted for reviewing! Yay! Now there’s like a week of fooling around before all that other shit I need to get done.

 So, I started drawing Severan and Ananthe, my two rather new characters from an original setting of mine. Severan is a young, brazen (read: stupid) and moody meat-eater elf , with a bit of cat in his blood. He is also a reiteration of my old Dark Heresy character, but way less like Kanda. Like totes.
 Ananthe (right in the picture) is far older and wiser, half and half of a regular elf and a meat-eater elf. He and Severan have a complicated relationship which has a lot of Ananthe being pretty fed up with Severan’s bullshit, like in this picture.

 Then, for the summer~ I will be attending several events this summer!

• I will try my wings at a new event, the Dark Market of Lumous Gothic Festival on the 15th of July in Tampere! There's no entrance fee to this event, so if you're in Tampere come say hi to me~
• Then there's of course the course on Manga I will be teaching in Joutseno straight after Lumous.
• I've also booked a table from Ropecon (28th-30th July, Helsinki) this year too, so you will find me in the dealers' den, again!
• Me and my partner in crime, Pihlajatar, also got a table from Creators' Alley in Worldcon 9th-13th of August

So far these are the confirmed events that I will be attending, I'll keep you posted about new ones as I confirm participation~

 Don't forget that next weekend I will be in the Comics festival of Stockholm! If you happen to be there, do come say hi ^^

AND, my exhibition is open until 17th of May, so five days left if you want to see it! Thank you all who have already visited the exhibition, I loved reading the guestbook when I popped in last week!

Vernissage is tomorrow!

We got all my works up on the walls without anyone dying, getting injured or any of the frames falling on the floor, yay! Usually there’s at least some kind of a mishap that’ll complicate things, but this time everything… went suspiciously smooth. I hope this goes on in the vernissage. 

Preparation

Save money, frame everything by yourself… It has been quite the ordeal, but everything is almost done, with no loss of limbs or even fingers!

 There’s just a bit over a week until the vernissage, too. I’m very nervous! This will be my first solo exhibition vernissage, after all. My first solo exhibition in a very, very long time, too. I’ve only had one before, after art school.

Näyttelyssä tekijä valottaa sarjakuvan syntyprosessia; pitkää ja mutkaista tietä, jonka päästä löytyi lopulta 32 sivua. Miten tarina syntyi, muuttui ja lopulta sai viimeisen muotonsa? Näyttely koostuu luonnoksista, sarjakuvaa edeltävistä yksittäisistä teoksista ja lyhyistä prosessia avaavista teksteistä. Kokonaisuutta täydentää valikoima sarjakuvaoriginaaleja Sulka & Suomusta, joista kukin on toteutettu vesivärimaalauksena.

Feathers & Scales - An exhibition on the birth a comic.

The exhibition will be open from 27th of April to the 17th of May (Note, that the Facebook-event ends before that, since Facebook accepts only two week long events)
Gloria is open on weekdays 9.00 - 15.00 & during events

Feather & Scale is a small accordion book-comic. It is a test, a study of how cyclic and multilinear storytelling could function in paper format. It is also a dreamlike story of the meeting of two creatures; and the multiple consequences that ensue.

In the exhibition the artist sheds a sliver of light on the process of making this comic; the long and winding road at the end of which one found 32 small pages. How was the story born, how did it evolve, change and set into its final form? The exhibition consists of sketches, independent pieces that paved way for the comic and short comments by the artists on the process. The exhibition is completed with a selection of comic page originals from Feather & Scale, each of which is a small watercolour painting.

Spring Announcements!

First, thank you all you who came to say hi in Tampere Kuplii, you made my weekend <3

Then, to the other things! My next con will be the Stockholm International Comics Festival in May! My first con abroad, very exciting! If you happen to be around, please come say hi! I will be sharing a table with Rikkis in the Small Press Expo.

But before that I will have a small exhibition of originals for the Feather&Scale graphic novel! I will have more info on that soon, so stay tuned~

And lastly, something not so nice. My nemesis, the Finnish Post Office will rise their prices yet again in the beginning of April. Therefore, all of you who haven’t yet gotten my graphic novel from the webshop, you should hurry before everything gets worse. I put both the graphic novel and our colouring booklet on sale, just for you lovelies ;> Thank you for all your support so far!

Meetings & Beginnings

 I posted a few paintings I did for the comic online elsewhere, the main reason was that these didn't make it to the comic as full page panels in the end. So, I wanted to share them in their full glory digitally!

Tampere Kuplii is almost upon us! I hope to see you there ^^

 I also have a small exhibition of the originals for this comic in the works, more info soon! Negotiations are going on so I can't give an exact date just yet, but it will be this spring.

Feather & Scale!

It is here, finally!

 Feather & Scale is an accordion book graphic novel, and a study of nonlinear, cyclic storytelling. Two creatures, Feather and Scale, leave their safe homesteads, meet each other and multiple possibilities open up: how do they react to each other and what happens to them?

32 pages, 7 cm x 12 cm.

Printed on 160 g/m² glossy paper. Each accordion book is handmade by yours truly <3 

Apart from the title, the graphic novel is textless, therefore, readable by anyone anywhere~

Available internationally on my TicTail shop and in conventions I will attend; next one being Tampere Kuplii, you can find me in Pienlehtimarssi18.3.-.19.3., with the amazing Viivi Rintanen and Rikkis ^^

ps. I also added a few of my favorite pages and panels to my Redbubble, since I won’t be able to sell prints abroad from the TicTail thank to Finnish postoffice being monstrously expensive

Feather and Scale is almost here

The proofs came, and the colours, structure and everything works! I've okayed the printing, so seems like I will indeed have a comic to sell in Tampere Kuplii! So exciting!

 I'll properly announce the comic after I get it from the print house, in the meantime we can enjoy this temporary cat-Homer not really appreciating the fruits of my hard work.

Watercolours

I’m sure pictures of my palette only amuse me, but things got so cosmic I decided to share.
 I love painting with watercolours! There was a few year break when I didn’t really paint at all, but now I’m getting my share of painting with the comic.

Homer the cat-helper

Yes, let me help, helping is what I do best.

Mine most faithful cat-helper has returned to aid me after so many years! Maybe some of you even remember our sweet summer prince, Homer~ (he is totally a vampire)

New Year, New Brushes~

So many pages already! My small comic is almost done, if nothing goes wrong it will be available in Tampere Kuplii in March, we got a table there, too! I'm so relieved and anticipating my return to the small press world after so many years. Let us hope nothing goes awry....

A very exciting time lapse of painting with ink! Comic is well on its way, seems like I might get it done faster than I dared hope.

More tiny slivers of my tiny comic; I really enjoy painting that belly~ I'll try to keep posting little sneak peeks of the comic as regularly as I can! My goal is to get it done by Tampere Kuplii next spring! Wish me luck, and stay posted my lovelies~

Feather

...And here's the coy friend of last week's scaleback, hiding behind the silver paint I bought from Nara. Still loving it very much, and this one requires it in heaps and bounds. I love painting those feathers.

Also! I will be participating in Elisabet Höyry's Christmas market in Steam Hellsinki on Sturday the 3rd of December 14-19! If you're around, come say hi! I'll have a little something new there too, so stay vigilant~
