Throwback Thursdays!

This year I decided to have the occasional throwback Thursday for fun and for trying to keep posting more varied xD Feels like the only thing I have time for is comics anymore!
AND many of my current followers probably have no clue what I was up let's say 12 years ago :'D That's how old this watercolour painting is! Feels pretty weird... I was so young and full of ambition back then, and already focusing almost solely on this lil' creeper!

In the Library

"Dear Customer, the books You're trying to return are over a year late, I am afraid a substantial fine is in order"
watercolour and ink on hot pressed watercolour paper, 2020

Aka. Day in the life of Severan the meat eater cat-elf aka. When your boss/ex forces you to return his books to the library.

This was supposed to be a self-indulgent little thing for my New Years, and, oh wow is it April already? xD
The golden haired one is Mizane the librarian, if anyone remembers him anymore. He's a cat elf too, so they can both bond over their tragic cat-elf childhoods after Severan is done paying Ananthe's library fines. Don't worry they actually do get along rather well after this first meeting.
Sigh I wish I'll one day have time to write&draw this story too, but I probably won't ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Kave!

Here's a Kave I painted for the second Youkai exhibition / doujinshi ^^ K ave is a being who cuts away at the moon to make it narrower, the name is an allusion to the word narrow in Finnish, which is kapea.
I had a really good time with this, might want to do more of these later, too 🖤
16th page is also coming along nicely, too bad I won't have time to work on it for the rest of the week xD I love my life!

Painted with watercolour, ink and a bit of white acrylic.

Shh...

”Oi, this is not the next page of Paths of Avarnight?!”
”Shhhhh, I’ll just paint this tiny little thing real quick...”

Cover illustration

Siipisulka, a collection of angel themed spefi short stories, is now available 💚💙💚💙 Get yours here:
Aavetaajuus shop (the book is only in Finnish unfortunately)

And now that the book is out I deliver an only slightly cropped version of the entire illustration I made for the book in October xD! I loved, loved, loved doing those wings.

ps. I will be selling my stuff in Å-fest next weekend! If you’re in Porvoo, come say hi!

Siipisulka

The mystery wing I was drawing months ago is finally ready to revealed! My first official book cover illustration in the speculative fiction collection of angel themed short stories. Follow Aavetaajuus for more updates on this project!
I will post the entire illustration when the book is released! Unfortunately it will be in Finnish, though :/

Merea & Uzure

I’m going to call this done, been working on this way too long. This was a year end gift for myself that got way out of hand :’D I apparently love doing huge pieces that make my rickety old computer sputter and die every half an hour.

Merea and Uzure, again two critters from the past of the world of that comic. Merea is the one with burning coals for hair and coincidentally is something akin to a grandparent to my darling black metal dragon. A living, breathing weapon of mass destruction in a skimpy metal bikini, here to set the world ablaze just the way I like them ♡♡

Uzure on the other hand... is also related to a certain someone, but maybe I wont spoil the fun yet (`▽´)

I apologise for the lack of updates in this blog, my life has been crazy for the past year or so, and it won’t get any better just yet, because I’m going to Japan next week! For a bit over two weeks, so less art more tedious vacation pictures! Yay! After that particular hurdle I hop we can get back into a more orderly art life.

Naughty comic teaser

Well, I'd say this new paper passed the test, and this just might be the first panel of my future story! Please, don't get too excited just yet, though. I want to draw at least six pages of the story before I upload it online, so all of you lovelies will have a bit more to see on the first go ^^
I will endeavour to present these pages to all of you as soon as possible, and will most certainly post more naughty teasers while I work on them~
There's still today and tomorrow left of my sale over in Tictail and as always Redbubble is open, if you wish to support my comic making efforts!

Weedy Sea Dragon Merman

Here’s my Disco Seahorse just in time for Mermay :’D He is a weedy sea dragon, a magnificently weird fish indeed, this sure was a learning experience. And those colours. Wow.
This guy is also a part of the Heavenly Bodies series, so he has a secret backside, and he will become bookmarks some time in the future ^^

Flashback March vol. 3

(I decided to keep at it even though I’ve also been naughty and drawn new stuff)Another old watercolour painting of Mitral I. This time it is about blood magic ( ◉◞౪◟◉) Mitral has some skill in it, which we will see when the comic actually starts~~

I still like the smoke, but hair, I’ve gotten better at least at painting hair. I think…

Flashback March vol. 2

Time for another entry to my Flashback March~
Here’s a Mitral I painted for one of my very first conventions a bit after I had published my first comic. Mitral was one of the main characters in it. Well, to be exact the main character. Much of the story revolves around the misadventures and bad decisions this dumb red head makes.
Look forward to that, for if everything goes as I’ve planned you’ll meet Mitral in a proper comic this year. With less edgelordyness, too, maybe.

AND! In case I forgot to mention, I will be tabling at Tampere Kuplii on Saturday the 24th of March! Come say hi if you're around ^^

Flashback March volume 1

I decided to make March a flashback month to protect my sanity in the throes of my thesis (= not really having time for art, which will lead to a neglect of social media accounts which leads to stressssss). So I will share some old stuff of mine and maybe talk about them pieces a little too. It will also get me in a nice comic mood.

Here’s a piece I painted for my very first solo exhibition, it is the last piece I painted and the only one I still find tolerable. The exhibition was an account of different families of elder elvenkind inhabiting a forested realm beyond the tallest mountains you’ll ever see, in the world of my comic. While the realm itself plays a very small part in the first arcs of the entire story, this particular critter in the middle might actually have a role in the early comic ;D

Hello from Copenhagen and an announcement!

First, a few pictures of my extra-exciting adventures here in the Capitol of Denmark! I have to say, this is a very lovely city. First a few pics from the Botanic Garden:

Some islamic book illumination, absolutely exquisite.

My new love, the biggest clam in the world. I love it.

Pretty houses all around!

And then a piece that finished just before I left to Denmark and am now able to reveal! I painted a Finnish nature spirit, Metsähinen for an joint exhibition in Nagoya, Japan and Valkeakoski, Finland! More info can be found HERE

Å-Fest and some really old art

Visited home last weekend, and there I have all of my old, old art school paintings and such stored. There I painted a lot of things but my favorite is a narrative pentatych 140cm high and 160 cm wide when opened. It is hands on the biggest piece I’ve ever done! This is a detail of the biggest, central piece.
I made it in the vein of medieval altarpieces, with doors and all. It tells the tale of my main char for life Mitral 💖

ALSO! I'll be in Å-Fest this weekend! It is a small comic festival in Porvoo! So, if you happen to be around there, do come say hi ^^

The Awaiting

Sometimes I've got to paint instead of write the thesis. I really like this one. It is also in my Redbubble, like everything else :D

Art Summary 2017

This year went by so fast! It became the year of pale babes completely by accident.
But I kind of managed my goal of a halfway decent pic per month, yay! Next year I’ll try to have a few from which to choose from... That’d be nice.

Thank you to all my lovely followers for yet another year <3 I hope next year will be kinder to us all than this one.

The exhibition is open!

The exhibition is officially open! Welcome everyone ^^The originals will be up on display until the 9th of September!
In other great news, I will be sharing a table with the wonderful Rikkisu in the Zinefest of Helsinki Comics festival on the first weekend of September! I'll see if I can cook up something small and shenanigan-y for the event~ More information will be shared closer to the event.

A new exhibition of the same comic :D

Second round of rubbing my comic originals in the face of innocent passer-bys en masse is a-go~! Well, next week, that is.

More info in English below, but before that some Finnish.
***
Sulkia & Suomuja -sarjakuvanäyttely
Tikkurilan kirjasto, 2. kerros
Lummetie 4

Näyttely on avoinna 21.8.-9.9.2017
Ma-Pe 8-20
La-Su 10-16

Tervetuloa!

***
Feathers & Scales
An exhibition of comic page originals.
Tikkurila Library
Lummetie 4
The exhibition is open 21.8.-9.9.2017
Mon-Fri 8-20
Sat-Sun 10-16

The Feather & Scale publication exhibition turned into a mini-tour! A few new, yet unseen originals will also be on display.

Feather & Scale is a small accordion book-comic. It is an experiment, a study of how cyclic and multilinear storytelling could function in paper format. It is also a dreamlike story of the meeting of two creatures; and the multiple consequences that ensue.

Welcome!

ps. If you want to RSVP to the FB-event, please do <3

A batch of scroll-prints

I made a batch of huge prints for Ropecon and Worldcon! People have been asking for these, so I shall deliver!
They are 60 cm high, except Laughter who is a tiny 55 cm~ The width varies a bit from piece to piece. As a bonus there's an A4 sized mini-Ninavel for scale. There's small and big prints of all these other darlings, too!

And! It seems like people can visit the creator's alley of Worldcon even without having the membership to the event! So if you want to come and say hi to me there, I'll be having a table with Pihlajatar from Friday to Sunday ^^
